I am Abikanile. A singer/songwriter previously known as Bí. Recently inspired to honour my true self I am now embracing my birth name Abikanile which is an African name that means ‘listen’.
I was born and raised in Brazil but have spent most of my life in the UK and I believe that the diversity of my bicultural background has inevitably reflected on my musical influences and on the way I write my lyrics and songs, both in English and in Portuguese.
My music is a soulful wave of Brazilian and British vibes melted with soothing yet vibrant and eclectic rhythms and harmonies.
My beautiful band ’The Amanas’ and I have performed locally as well as abroad and we were nominated as one of the finalists for the 2019 UK Latin Awards (The LUKAS Awards) for best Brazilian Act of the Year.
I am proud to have recently performed at Global Pride 2020 representing Pride in Surrey and have also released my charity single My Shining Star Yes, You Are! to raise funds for the UK Pride Organisers Network.
